Outstanding Leadership in Queens
2014 Honoree of the Queens Federation of Churches

The Honorable Eric Ulrich

Eric A. Ulrich was born and raised in Ozone Park, Queens. He attended neighborhood public and parochial schools, P.S. 63 (Old South) and Nativity BVM respectively. In high school, he contemplated becoming a catholic priest. After graduating from Cathedral Prep Seminary, Eric became active in local civics and discovered that politics could also be a vehicle for social change.

Eric is the first member of his family to earn a college degree. Thanks in part to the generosity of the Franciscan Brothers of Brooklyn, Eric studied political science on a full scholarship and graduated from St. Francis College in 2007. It was there that he met the former Yadira Moran of Manhattan’s Lower East Side. The two were married on November 20th 2009.

On February 24th 2009, Eric won the City Council Special Election in District #32. He was re-elected in the November General Election of that same year. At 28, he is currently the youngest serving member of the council and serves as Minority Whip of the Republican delegation.

Since taking office, Eric has implemented an aggressive quality-of-life agenda, targeting graffiti vandalism and illegal dumping on city streets. His legislative record includes three consecutive balanced budgets and several bills which have brought greater accountability to city government. Citizens Union, a nonpartisan good government group, recognized Ulrich “because of his motivated effort to create meaningful improvements in the district and [his] potential to bring new and fresh ideas to the council.”

Eric remains active in various civic, fraternal, and charitable organizations throughout the district including the Knights of Columbus, Kiwanis Club of Howard Beach, Jamaica Rotary, and the 102nd Police Precinct Community Council. He is also a former member of Queens Community Board #9.

Eric and Yadira reside in Lindenwood with their daughter Lily and Yorkshire terrier “Tiny.”
