Sharon Rumley, RN, MPH

 

Sharon Rumley, RN, MPH, is the Executive Director of the Queens Comprehensive Perinatal Council, Inc. She received both her Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Public Health from Hunter College in New York City; a Certificate in Executive Not-for-Profit Management from Columbia University, Graduate School of Business; a Certificate in Health Care Executive Management from the Johnson & Johnson/UCLA Health Care Executive Program; and is currently a doctoral candidate in Health & Behavior Studies at Teachers College, Columbia University, and was awarded the Minority Group Scholarship. Ms. Rumley is a Registered Professional Nurse and has worked in the Maternal/Child Health Nursing and Urban Public Health fields for more than 30 years.

Ms. Rumley has been the Executive Director of the Queens Comprehensive Perinatal Council, Inc. since the community-based maternal/child health organization was established in May 1988; and has provided the professional executive leadership for the development of maternal/child health programs consistent with the organization’s mission. The organization addresses infant and maternal mortality and morbidity and adolescent pregnancy in at-risk Queens communities through its outreach, community education (consumer & provider) and case management/home visiting services interventions. The organization successfully developed “Outreach Best Practices” Guidelines that have received citywide (NYC Department of Health & Mental Hygiene) and national (Health Resources & Services Administration, Maternal/Child Health Bureau) recognition.

In April 2004, Ms. Rumley was one of nine honorees selected citywide by the Public Health Association of New York City to receive its 2004 Public Health Community Award.

Ms. Rumley is a member of the American Public Health Association, Chi Eta Phi Sorority and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

She is married to Sam Howard Rumley and the mother of Cheree Rumley-Miawama and Yakik Rumley; and the grandmother of Zahra Miawama.
