CHANGER is a homeowner advocacy organization working with homeowners in the communities most impacted by foreclosures and sub prime unaffordable mortgages.

CHANGER has two areas of programming COPE² and Do Something

COPE² is CHANGER’s direct service program that provides free legal assistance, free mortgage counseling, and free education classes on topics related to foreclosure and successful long term homeownership.

FREE LEGAL CLINIC:  CHANGER holds free pro-se assistance foreclosure legal clinics twice a week.  Every Monday from CHANGER holds a free foreclosure legal clinic at Councilman Thomas White Jr’s office in South Ozone Park Queens.  Every Tuesday CHANGER holds a free foreclosure legal clinic at Assemblyman Darryl Towns’ office in East New York/Cypress Hills Brooklyn.

FREE MORTGAGE COUNSELING (loan modification):  CHANGER provides homeowners with unaffordable sub prime mortgages access to a free mortgage counselor to negotiate on their behalf for a loan modification with their servicer (financial institution/BANK).

FREE EDUCATION CLASSES:  CHANGER’s education classes begin with the COPE² Introductory Workshop.  CHANGER’s direct services are part of a program that requires participation in COPE² class.

COPE² Introductory Workshop is a detailed explanation of the foreclosure legal process and timeline and an overview of the classes offered by CHANGER and its partners, experts on the following topics.  These classes are necessary in order to survive a foreclosure and avoid a judgment of foreclosure and sale and eviction by marshal.

          • Understanding and Preparing for a Settlement Conference: Understanding Loan Modifications.

          • Money Survival—financial management and spending.

          • Sales & Short-Sales—even if Idon’t want to sell my home.

          • Bankruptcy—does this make sense for me?

          • Court Preparation—handling oneself in court.

          • Homeowner—Rights & Responsibilities

Do Something is CHANGER's organizing program. It is our position that homeowners must be prepared to act as a unified body to demand the establishment of an equitable financial services industry. CHANGER mobilizes homeowners across NYC communities to successfully demand such economic justice and our current plans are centered on building the collective power of homeowners and residents while the present foreclosure crisis continues to grow.

The Do Something campaign has four demands.
Moratorium on foreclosures.
Moratorium on evictions related to foreclosure.
Mortgage Write Downs.
Return of foreclosed properties to local communities as a source of affordable housing.
